Ep. 83 - The Unexpected Virtue of Fury

Top 5 Film doubles up and discuss two new features in Ep. 83 - The Unexpected Virtue of Fury. First is David Ayer's "Fury" starring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, and Jon Bernthal as a Sherman tank unit making their final push into Germany during World War II. Second is Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)" starring Michael Keaton as a washed-up actor who once played an iconic superhero coping with personal issues as he prepares to release a Broadway play. There's no denying that Top 5 Film loves action movies and since a whole bunch of action stars we grew up watching are all together again in "The Expendables 3," Top 5 Film felt it necessary to commit an episode to the group of action heroes that might be better off taking naps. Ep. 79 - Ninja Mutant Turtle Teenagers?!

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" directed by Jonathan Liebesman is out in theaters and Top 5 Film felt it necessary to discuss, not only this new reboot of a beloved franchise, but all things Turtles. Legendary and Warner Brothers have unleashed their new "Godzilla" and Top 5 Film wants to talk all about it. To help discuss the new disaster-monster tale your hosts brought on one of their close friends, Pete Willoughby who has worked in production design for multiple films including the upcoming Christopher Nolan film "Interstellar". Sony has released "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" so that means we at Top 5 Film need to talk about it. To do so we've brought back reoccurring guest Steve Zaragoza of SourceFed and YouTube fame. Ep. 73.5 - Punch, Kick, The Raid 2!

There has been a whole lot of buzz circulating around "The Raid 2" since its Sundance premiere earlier this year and Top 5 Film felt it necessary to address it with one of our .5 episodes. If you are wondering what the hell a .5 episode is, it is a small bite size episode versus our longer 60 to 90 minute episodes. These episodes generally do not include a Top 5 List and tend to house small reviews of a single film or a discussion of a hot topic. Episode 73.5 focuses in on "The Raid 2" and whether it A., lives up to the hype it earned out of Sundance, and B., how it measures up to the predecessor also written and directed by Gareth Evans.

Ep. 72 - Old Man Action

Old man action movies have been revived following Liam Neeson showing off his age and action skill set at the prime age of 54 in 2008's "Taken." Now with more and more older actors trying their hand in the art of geriatric action, we decided to spend an episode discussing it. In order to properly discuss Dad-Core action movies we've brought on the knowledgeable Kevin Carr of Fat Guys at the Movies and Film School Rejects. Episode 72 includes reviews of "3 Days to Kill" and "Non-Stop" along with an accompanying Top 5 Old Man Action Protagonists list.

In Episode 71, Top 5 Film welcomes back Drew McWeeny of HitFix to the show to talk the recent remake of Paul Verhoeven's iconic 1987 scifi "RoboCop." The 2014 update is directed by Jose Padilha and stars Joel Kinnaman.
